Have you ever considered that much of our laughter, our sharing with one another, our memories together are made around the table, with our favorite music playing in the background?
In memory everything seems to happen to music.” Tennessee Williams
We first learned about a memory tablecloth when we joined our friends, David and Rebecca for an annual Christmas party back in 2010.
Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.” Bob Dylan
Spread across their dining room table was a white cloth with messages written all over it in a variety of colors. Many of us added a notation that very night.
Soon, our family started our own memory tablecloth and it has been a highlight of many of our meals for the past five years. It is fun to look back at the memories we’ve collected on our tablecloth! A few helpful tips:
Be sure to place poster board under cloth before beginning.
Any age friend or family member can participate
from toddler to age 100 and beyond.
Always date and initial or sign your notation.
Don’t worry if you make a mistake, just make
it into a flower or a heart and carry on. <smile>
Take to dry cleaners when dirty.
I have always loved this idea. Holidays at David and Rebecca’s are so special and I love reading the memory cloth. Several are messages from those who are now in heaven and they are even more special. It makes us feel like they are still joining us at the table.”
